Email notifications can be triggered by automatic jobs that are scheduled for specific times of day.

A notification is sent for all overdue tickets that are assigned to a user. Each night we check for all overdue tickets for each user. A user will not get more than one notification per week for a specific ticket. We only send emails to users that are in state "authorized" and have not told the system that they are on vacation.
